The Warren Animal Shelter Volunteer
 
The goal of the Warren Animal Shelter Volunteer is to increase the adoptability for all shelter animals, therefore decreasing the need for euthanasia.
 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Objectives of the Warren Animal Shelter Volunteer

 

 To provide socialization and care to the following shelter animals:

  1. Stray animals
  2. Potential owner & protective custody animals
  3. Animals in recovery
  4. Animals available for adoption

 

 To improve the quality of life for all animals at Warren Animal Shelter by:

  1. Providing hands-on socialization in kennels and cages (being a “buddy” for the animals)
  2. Maintaining information board about the special needs of specific animals
  3. To act as the animal’s voice by helping the public and adoptions staff know as much about them as possible

  

 

 

There is always something to be done, and you can always ask a staff member when you are unsure what needs to be done.

 

 

Warren Animal Shelter – Volunteer opportunities available

 

Adult applicants must:

v       Be at least 18 yrs of age

v       Complete an application, orientation and training as needed

v       Be able to volunteer at least 3 times per month

 

Junior applicants must:

v       Be between 15 yrs and 17 yrs of

v       Complete an application, have a letter of recommendation from family or prominent figure, orientation and training as needed

 

Friends:

Friends are an all-volunteer support group.  Their mission is to generate support and raise public awareness of the Warren Animal Shelter.  You must be at least 18 yrs of age.  Friends’ volunteer opportunities include:

v       Adopt-a-thons

v       Ticket sales

v       Yard sales

v       Walk-a-thons

v       Pet photos

v       Cook books

 

What do volunteers do?

 

Volunteers are an ESSENTIAL part of the Warren Animal Shelter.  Here is a list of what volunteers do in the shelter:
v       Clean cat kennels, feed, water and litter boxes
v       Clean dog kennels, feed, water and toys
v       Wash, dry and put away laundry
v       Wash cat and dog dishes
v       Sweep and mop floors
v       Socialize with cats, give toys
v       Walk dogs, exercise in outside play yards
v       Clean the bathroom
v       Clean outside dog pens (wash toys, scoop poop)
v       Pooper scoop outside play yard
v       Empty trash
v       Put away food donations (litter)
v       Rake, weed or cut grass outside grounds, shovel snow in winter
 

 

The appearance of the shelter reflects upon the public's opinion of the shelter. Volunteers play a vital role in keeping the animals healthy, happy and content, and keeping the shelter looking its best.
